Vestibule of Light

A luminous glass vestibule transforms with the day’s changing light, acting as a beacon to welcome guests while maintaining the resident’s privacy. Hirt’s monolithic glass walls are a study in contrast, emphasizing the grandness and verticality of the space while honoring the delicate weightlessness of glass. Inspired by nature and impermanence, he suspends the natural flow of bubbles and curtains of transparency to capture and animate light. This seductive and rare space includes a custom poured glass door handle generating stunning, uninterrupted pattern of lines, as individual as a fingerprint.

Stephen Hirt produced the vestibule in collaboration with Silk, Cavassa, Marchetti Architects + Interiors. He also teamed up with Noble Woodworks who created the wood portion of the eleven-foot door. Balancing the engineering requirements of working with and installing nearly 4,000 pounds of glass, and a light driven aesthetic, Hirt delved deeper into his signature glass casting methods. Hirt employed an extensive sampling process, to isolate the picture-perfect amount of movement and veiling, compelling an unpredictable encounter between natural materials and the fabrication process to produce a delicate yet monumental entry for this extraordinary residence.

Beachscapes

Stephen Hirt is inspired by the Pacific Northwest’s awe inspiring natural beauty. Exploring uncommon material to create this cast glass sculptural table, he developed a unique casting process to capture the line, texture, and impermanence of the tide. Suspending a single moment in time and space, the table offers a reminder of life’s continuous ebb and flow. The patinated steel pier base grounds the table and allows the viewer to savor the play of light and movement.

This table is available as a coffee table or console table.
